About the Community

Free to join. Built to make a difference.

The TAL WhatsApp Community was built because the right guidance was never reaching the right people.

When our founders navigated their own applications to Cambridge, they found almost no accessible support. No one to answer basic questions. No way to know what selectors actually wanted. No community of people going through the same thing.

So they built one.

Today the TAL community spans four groups covering undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and early career applicants. It is free to join and always has been. Inside you will find verified scholars answering questions, curated resources shared regularly, webinars on the scholarships that matter most, and a group of people who genuinely want to see you succeed.

You will not find generic advice or recycled tips here. You will find people who have won Chevening, Gates Cambridge, Commonwealth, Fulbright and more, sharing what actually worked.

Inside the Community

Everything you need to navigate your application. In one place.

25,000 questions answered

From the very basics of what a personal statement is to last minute questions the night before a deadline. No question is too small. No one is judged for asking.

Verified resources shared every week

Essay guides, interview preparation tips, scholarship timelines, visa walkthroughs, funded PhD listings, and deadline trackers. All free and updated regularly.

Scholar-led webinars on top scholarships

Live sessions covering Gates Cambridge, Chevening, Commonwealth, Fulbright, Rhodes and more. Hosted by scholars who have won these awards and know what selection committees look for.

Weekly clinic hours during peak seasons

During peak application seasons our mentors hold open clinic hours where members can bring live questions and get real answers from people who have been through the same process.

Scholarship and funded PhD opportunities

Hundreds of opportunities shared directly in the community throughout the year. Curated, verified, and matched to where our members are in their journey.

A community that holds it all with you

Every win celebrated and every difficult moment acknowledged. Because a rejection from a top programme is not the end. It is part of the journey of a serious applicant.

Our Admissions Process

We keep it small so it stays valuable.

Last year we opened our WhatsApp community publicly on LinkedIn. Within weeks all 2,000 places (the maximum allowed by WhatsApp) were taken.

A significant number of those places went to inactive accounts and people who were never going to engage. When we reached the limit we had no way to create space without removing real members. That was not fair on the people who genuinely needed to be there.

This year every application is reviewed before anyone receives the link. We are not looking for the most impressive profiles. We are looking for people who are genuinely working towards something and would benefit from being around others who understand what that feels like.

Every application is reviewed

We go through every application carefully before anyone receives the community link. Incomplete or vague answers will not make it through.

You hear within 24 hours

If you are the right fit you will receive your community link within 24 hours of submitting your application.

Rolling admissions

We review and admit on a rolling basis. The sooner you apply the better your chances of joining this cycle before places fill.
